The European Commission has disbursed another EUR 3.47bn to Ukraine under the defence window of the EUR 90bn Ukraine Support Loan.

It did not disclose how the latest payment is divided between the different systems.

- We are also bringing our defence industries closer together, combining Europe’s industrial scale with Ukraine’s unmatched innovation, Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said in the release.

The Gripen element gives the package a direct Nordic industry link. Saab signed a SEK 24.6bn contract with Sweden’s defence procurement agency FMV in June for 16 Gripen E aircraft for Ukraine, with deliveries scheduled for 2029-2030.
